Sports Update: January 20

Happy Tuesday sports fans.  It was a busy weekend for LOMS girls' basketball.  The 7th grade team traveled to St. Patrick and took 4th place in their tournament.  They won the first game over Paulding by 8.  They went into overtime against Mesa and lost by one.  Maddie Fryer was named to the All Tournament Team.

The 8th grade did well in the Mesa Tournament finishing in 4th place.  They picked up wins 3 wins including a hard fought one point win against Laguna.  Kennedy Robinett was named to the All-Tournament Team for her strong performance throughout all five games.  The team struggled in the semifinals after leading scorer Grace Hotaling twisted her ankle and had to sit out.  Overall the girls played well against tough competition with Grace Hotaling leading the scoring, Kennedy Robinett and Hattie Taylor leading in hustle plays, and Anelise Dempsey providing key minutes off the bench.

The girls play their first home game on Wednesday against Laguna.  Lets pack the house.  On Thursday the girls will travel to St. Patrick dismissal at 2:20.

The boys had a light week last week.  They played Paulding and struggled to get the ball in the basket.  Cade Sokolowski started the game strong with several early rebounds and put backs for points, but in the end the Lions could not keep up.  In 7th grade the game was closer, with Carson Leedom leading way in rebounds.

This week is a busy week for the boys.  Today they host St. Patrick, come and cheer them on.  On Wednesday they travel to Atascadero.

On Thursday, Friday and Saturday the 7th boys will host 7 teams including geographic rival Cayucos. Because this is a tournament, the 7th grade parents have went all out in setting up concessions.  Jamba Juice and Kona Ice will be on hand to support the Lions and fill your stomachs.

Tournament play is from 3:30 to 7:30 on Thursday and Friday, 10 to 2 on Saturday.
